The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (CCH), a non-profit organization in Denver, has bought a $8.4 million (about R124 million) former hotel to help alleviate homelessness in the city in an effort to address the people's plight. Since then the newly renovated house, now named Fusion Studios, has become an apartment block for the homeless with 139 mini apartments.

The organization has worked to provide housing and aid to the growing number of homeless people in the United States. There are at least 5,750 homeless people in Denver alone When the organization's president and CEO John Parvensky heard that Quality Inn and Suites, a nearby hotel on a major road, was on rent, he seized the opportunity to convert it into a shelter for the homeless.

CCH acquired the hotel using funds from the community, state and private agencies, redesigned the property and renamed it to Fusion Studios. Fusion Studios, the 17th building of its kind built by CCH, now acts as refuge for homeless people struggling to survive the city's' public camping prohibition,' which is still being enforced following a county judge's illegal decision.

Homeless people from the community are accepted at Fusion Studios, where monthly rent costs are only 30 per cent of their salary or disability benefits, usually only $100 a month. We have keys to a space furnished with a private bathroom and a kitchen fitted with basic amenities such as a bed, a table and chairs, a refrigerator, a Pc, a mini-fridge, a microwave and a canteen.
